"Fossil of Thought 2022”
The work is based on a fossilised layering of past thoughts visualised in text and photographs, such as text print media.
Created during an online residency exchange at the Tainan gallery Absolute Space for the Art from October to December 2022. All print media were magazines and newspapers sent from Tainan. The stacks of pages were hardened with resin and scraped into stone shapes.
Some of the Taiwanese literary magazines and newspapers featured articles on the period during the Japanese occupation. While we are grateful for the peaceful relationship between our countries, we have a duty to pass on the memories of the past to the next generation with an objective eye. Nowadays, the sense of communication between the people of Japan and Taiwan is close, and we were able to complete the exhibition through sincere and enthusiastic exchanges with each other.
Material: printed matter from Tainan, resin.
Size: each approx. 340x300x30㎜
